It could be argued that retiring before my 45th birthday has left me purposeless. Is it true? Who knows? Retirement is better for me than going to work each day. Working until retirement, when you don’t have to is for those who need someone else to define their daily misery. I’ll give you a pass if you are a part of the atypical 10% of society who actually loves their job, but most people I talk to have anything but love their jobs. I’m pretty sure I can seek out personal misery well enough on my own. I don’t need a job for that.
My fiftieth birthday is arriving with the inevitability of a freight train thundering along the railroad tracks. Now is time to think about what I want to do with my life before my corpuscles, bones, mucous membranes, connective tissue, nasty attitude, and everything else revert to their elemental components and are shared, once again, with the universe. Ideally, I’d be able to accomplish anything that I plan and still remember it. (I better work fast for the last part!) Consider this as a jump-start on a personal Bucket List. Why wait until the last moment and rush to complete all the things you’ve always wanted to do? Do them early. Do them now. Do them often. And, just in case you might forget what you are trying to do, write the list down.
You can find Becky and my goals listed below. Return to this web page when your life is empty and you can see if we make any progress on our arbitrary goals. Can we complete the list? Will we need to or want to add more items?
The downside is that if we complete our listed goals, our lives may once again revert to being purposeless. But, thankfully, with a few pokes at the keyboard, we can always attach more goals. Life’s purpose will be restored. As it stands now, there is plenty to do. We won’t be finishing this list anytime soon.
Anyway, without further ado, here are the lists. If you are looking for the moral high road, you won’t find it here.
The Lists*

We haven’t sorted that out yet. I figure we will end up riding things that we come by.

[…] Early in March of 2010, Becky and I rode our tandem up to San Francisco to dine at Coi in North Beach. Coi (pronounced “Kwa”) is one of the nine Bay Area restaurants that have received four out of four stars from the San Francisco Chronicle. Michelin gives Coi two stars in its most recent guide. (There are only 81 Michelin three star restaurants in the world.) Our visit will take a couple of notches off of our bucket list. […]

Though Paris is Space Invader’s base, we were still surprised to see eight mosaic tile Invaders were easily visible from Le Périphérique as we crept by in the slow traffic.
