France: Paris Metro

DSC_0923-Edit-Edit-EditBeyond being an eminently practical mode of transport, the Paris Metro is also a legitimate tourist attraction.  The inside of the stations is interesting.  But without doubt the most striking, memorable, and unique feature is the Hector Guimard designed entrances.  Accessing the Metro through these Art Nouveau gates feels like entering a scene in a science fiction fantasy movie.  The entrances are eerie, ominous, and beautiful.  It’s a cheap thrill.  You don’t even have to ride the Metro to see Guimard’s entrances.

We particularly liked the entrance to the Abbesses Station on Metro Line 12 but haven’t done a full survey.  What’s your favorite Paris Metro entrance?
