We broke camp in Whistler before noon after a futile search for propane in Whistler and headed the short drive down the road to Squamish. At Squamish, we established our camp at Dryden Creek Resort. Though the spot does not have hook-ups, it is a large grass area surrounded by trees and bordered on one side by a massive cliff. The net effect, when the RVs are in place is to create a nice outdoor room feel. The bugs aren’t so bad here, so it is a good place to hang out. Nick thinks that the bear hunting is lacking in the area, though.

After a stop at a local pub for lunch, we headed to the LBS behind Canadian Tire (Tantalus Bikes) and got the scoop on the trails and some suggestions. The primary area that we will ride (there are multiple places to ride in Squamish) is in the Garibaldi Hills. The Garibaldi Hills area is on top of the massive cliff that borders our campsite, so we are real close to the riding. Too bad you would need climbing gear to get the short way to the trails.

Needless to say, there are a lot of riding options in Squamish and we were only able to sample a few rides in the Garibaldi Highlands area.

The day dawned with low clouds and a heavy marine layer obscuring the snowfields on the craggy peaks that were visible on the way up to Whistler. The cool temperatures were ideal for riding.

Riding from the RV park was an option though the route would have been around 5 miles of road, so we opted to drive up to the parking area at the end of Perth (GPS (more…)
